Gyan by Ankush :)

On Wednesday, though on empty stomachs we waited eagerly for the speaker to arrive. It was none other than Ankush Grover, the beloved CR of our senior batch. The ambience immediately changed on Ankush's arrival. His big smile made the environment more comfortable. He persistently stressed upon improving the culture at SOM. SOM students need to be more engaged and outgoing rather than being diffident. "Criticize or get criticized", were his exact words.

Ankush shared his thoughts on the future path for the junior batch. He spoke on the importance on summer internship and the need to show professionalism and to put the best efforts for the long term benefits of both the intern and SOM. He emphasized on improving the networking skills and not forming closed friends groups. He also wanted networking lunch between the students and the delegates in the future continuums. Positively, in the current operations continuum we are having a networking lunch.

Apart from the serious part which actually consumed only a few minutes of the 25 minute session, Ankush shared his lighter experiences. One of the incidents was particularly funny when Ankush was on two of the articles on the notice board. One read 'Ankush Grover has been nominated to the hostel council" and the other read " ".

Parasuram then persuaded the junior batch to ask Ankush the right questions ('non-academic ones'). In his best efforts of persuasion Parasuram himself put-forth the questions. Ankush then told us about the best dating places near IIT Bombay ('NITIE-Goregaon road') and eateries to the joy of the batch.

Interaction with Phani

Once a placecomer, always a placecomer.. ! Sticking to the saying Mr. Phani Raj Gadiraju a.k.a Phani started the Reflection session on a bit serious note on 10th March 2010.

His invaluable tips on how to build a resume are undoubtedly very important for SOM11 and gave us the push in right direction.

Advice to focus on academics and emphasis on best performance in Internships motivated us to give the best.

His stress upon improving the communication skills would be a biggest take away for the class.

After some serious talk, the class also got the glimpses of lighter side of Phani with explanation of the tag line “How does that matter?” He got engaged and getting married in May this year. Every sentence of Phani stressed upon the dedicated efforts put by him for betterment of SOM, may it be biggest achievement of well placing the entire batch or takeaway from SOM as interaction with diverse people.

The session ended with wishing him the best wishes in personal and professional life. It’s a matter of pride to have Phani as a part of SOM family.

Reflections – Session with Ashutosh!

The very first session of Reflections kick-started on the 4th of March this Thursday with an informal talk by our very own Ashutosh Mishra of SOM-10.

Ashutosh shared various experiences of his life @ SOM, its ups and downs...smiles and frowns... the do’s n don’ts... the naughty and the enterprising! Laying stress on the importance of intra-batch interaction, he said that such interactions, especially in the early days when we just about join the institute, are crucial for they initiate the process of opinion-building and that staying back in the room... and interacting less does not get along too well in an MBA kind of a set-up.

He also shared with us, various experiences of his, where he stuck to his “never say die” attitude and derived maximum value out of whatever he pursued during the course of his stay at IIT Bombay. Ashutosh was quick to point out that being a part of SOM was in itself a big thing for him... and that feeling driven by a strong passion allowed him to achieve whatever he has till date during his stint @ SOM. One of the toppers of SOM-10 batch, Ashutosh wasn’t too comfortable when he was labelled as a pure ‘geek’... n he fast proved it wrong to everyone else by virtue of his multi-faceted accomplishments! Ashutosh thanked his friends from SOM-10 for being a part of one of the best times of his life... full of enjoyment and learning.

Now that Mr. Ashutosh is placed in a reputed firm... with a hefty package... and the fact that he is trying hard to keep his body fit (extra hours of baddy n tennis)... it won’t be too long for him to find the RIGHT ONE for himself! ;)

Here’s wishing Ashutosh All the very best...for the serendipity that awaits him!

Cheers!

(Paritosh – For Team Reflections)

Watch out for more such sessions with stalwarts from SOM-10!

PS: Special Thanks to Pavan for arranging the session.

What is Reflections

Reflections is a rolling interacting series of SOM, in which the senior batch students share their experiences and learnings with the Juniors. Basically, it is a reflection of their lives in the past 2 years @ SOM. The idea is to have an informal session with the seniors where the Juniors will get a chance to bombard them with questions. The seniors can share anything they would like to, it may be serious GYAN or it can be the silly pranks they have done. This will give the Juniors great learning opportunities and gives a better focus on how to lead the rest of their stay at SOM.
